"It's better to work on one object for ten days than to produce ten objects in a day." The motto of the Wiener Werkstätte
Our story begins in 1882 with Alexander Sturm, a trained gold- and silversmith who fulfilled his dream of manufacturing his own silverware. The Vienna Ringstrasse culture was at its zenith, and the dominant style was Historicism. The upper middle-classes acquired exquisite silverware to represent social status. The workshops produced products that were ahead of their time and expressed magnificent stylistic diversity.
Preserve the old to create something new: It was the vision of an innovative tradition of service that inspired George Stradiot 2008 to found the Vienna Silver Manufactur. The roots of the company go back to the year 1882 and now include an archive of 11,000 original designs, mainly from the time of the Vienna workshop. Here were masterpieces that are among the classics of design history.
We are passionate about silver. The soft, shimmering white metal has accompanied humankind for thousands of years but it still inspires us anew each day: its charm and its character, its allure and the value it conveys, its style and its distinction. This can be felt fully in our products, because we love silver and live for it — and because we are masters of our craft.
"It's better to work on one object for ten days than to produce ten objects in a day." The motto of the Wiener Werkstätte holds true to this day. We take our time with each detail and every step of the production process. The experience, precision and care that go into the work of each of our silversmiths guarantees a product of exquisite quality. The standards we work to are so high because yours are, too.
